W. M. (Bill) Huitt has been involved in industrial piping design, engineering and construction since 1965. Positions have included design engineer, piping design instructor, project engineer, project supervisor, piping department supervisor, and engineering manager. He is president of W. M. Huitt Co., an engineering consulting firm he founded in 1987. His experience covers both the engineering and construction fields and crosses industry lines to include petroleum refining, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biofuel, pulp & paper, nuclear power, and coal gasification. He has written numerous specifications, guidelines, magazine articles, and papers covering a wide range of piping issues. Bill is a member of ISPE (International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers) in which he has served as a Task Group member in the development of Chapter 10 of the Water and Steam Systems - Baseline Engineering Guide. Bill has also co-presented training seminars on Codes & Standards at the Annual International ISPE Conference. Also a member of CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). He is a member of the ASME-Bioprocessing Equipment (BPE) Subcommittee on Material Joining (Part MJ), the Subcommittee on Metallic Materials of Construction (Part MMOC), and the Subcommittee on Certification (Part CR). He is also Vice Chair on the ASME-Board on Conformity Assessment-BPE Certification. Bill has either been involved in or is currently involved in several Task Groups such as the TG's on Passivation, Rouge, 3A/BPE coordination, Higher Alloy definition (chair), Alloy specific terms, Certification audit checklist, Certification Auditor Training manual (chair), Tube & Fitting tolerance, Clamp Joint Pressure Rating (chair), and others. He is a member of B31.3 Sub-Group H Chapter X - High Purity Piping Systems. Bill is a member of two corporate specification review boards. Additionally he is a member of the API Task Group for the development of the new RP 2611 - Terminal Pipe Inspection and is on the advisory board for ChemInnovations a Chemical Process Industry conference & Expo held annually.
In addition there will be guest instructors that are experts in their field. These instructors will present courses focussed on specific aspects of piping design, fabrication and construction such as: Welding, Electropolishing, Passivation, Flexibility Analysis, Pipe Support Design and Specification, Materials of Construction (MOC), Corrosion Issues, Quality Assurance and Inspection, Valves (Design, Function, and Selection), Insulation.
